IIT graduate and businessman Anil Saxena had bought a 3,800 sq ft flat in Amber project in 2011 for around Rs 2 crore.

He said, “I bought this flat for my family, thinking my son and daughter would use it. But now, both of them have graduated and are working. I see a ray of hope that we may get the flat, but there are still concerns about legal and other problems related to the project.”

“The present management has assured us that the project will be completed on time or even before that. I am hopeful. I have already paid 98% of the amount while possession was promised in 2012-2013,” he said.

Rajnish, another homebuyer in the Amber project, had trouble remembering how much he paid for his three-bedroom flat in 2010. “I had taken a loan for the flat at that time, but I paid it off long ago. To be honest, I had forgotten about the project until I got an email about the bhoomi pujan recently. I am happy that the project is finally moving towards completion.”

YS Malik, a former IAS officer and chairman of Unitech’s new board, outlined the new timeline.

He said, “We plan to hand over plots in Willow by March 31, 2025, followed by Amber flats in June 2026. The first three towers of Burgundy will also be handed over by June 2026 and the remaining four by March 2027. We aim to complete the work ahead of schedule, but we must consider possible construction restrictions during GRAP 3 and 4. We will also ensure that the IGL pipeline and other cabling works are carried out simultaneously to avoid any drilling after construction.”

Malik said some retrofitting work has been added to the unfinished Amber and Burgundy towers, which were stalled for the past decade, to ensure structural stability.

Express City (UGCC Grande), located along the expressway, is spread over 344 acres. Unitech was allotted the land in 2006 and launched the Amber Group Housing Project in 2007, The Willows (plot) in 2008 and Burgundy Group Housing in 2010, with delivery dates initially set for 2012.
