Ghaziabad: Residents of various housing societies Indirapuram On Sunday, they expressed their concern by protesting on the service road of NH-9. pollution The incident occurred due to a dumping yard in Khoda.

The protesters blocked the road near the NIB post for more than two and a half hours.

Spread over 10 acres, the dumpyard is located on vacant land behind the Khoda police station. Residents alleged that more than 100 trucks dump their waste at the site daily, leading to the accumulation of several tonnes of garbage in the yard. The dumpyard is close to five high-rise buildings; Supertech Icon, Gaur Green Vista, Amrapali Village, Patrakar Vihar and V3S Indralok.

Ashish Kumar, a resident of Supertech Icon, said, “There is always a foul smell around our society. Property dealers say that no one wants to buy a property here because of this pungent smell and filth.”

“We are feeling suffocated due to the toxic smoke and gases emitted by burning plastic and other waste. The officials and elected representatives have not done a single thing. The dumping yard is filled with polluted water due to heavy rains,” said Chakrapani Priyadarshan, another resident.

Meanwhile, Khoda Municipality food and sanitation inspector Divyakant Agarwal said the garbage will be cleared within two to three months and sent to a disposal centre.

In May 2022, several residents of Indirapuram protested against the dumping of waste at the Shakti Khand landfill, as over 1,200 metric tonnes of solid waste had accumulated there. NGT Heavy fines were imposed on municipal officials, resulting in the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation having to clean up the garbage.
