Goa government to impose Rs 10,000 fine for unverified tenants from December 1

Panaji: From December 1, landlords will be included in Goa If they fail to verify their tenants, they will be fined Rs 10,000 Tenant Verification ActA notification issued by the Home Department said, “The Government of Goa appoints the 1st day of December 2024 as the date on which the provisions of the said Act shall come into force.”

Residents of other states who moved to Goa were found involved in crimes ranging from petty theft to a series of murders in the state, leading to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant Police should be instructed to start verification of those living on rent.

Sawant said the stringent verification norms are for the benefit of the people.

Since September, the police have been running a special verification drive across the state, in which the credentials of around 2 lakh tenants are being checked.
