Mysore: officials are delaying Rehabilitation Of Changadi Village Located in the dense forests of MM Hills Wildlife Sanctuary In Hennur Taluk Concern of Chamarajanagar district Residents,
After the residents of Changdi demanded to relocate their village, the state government headed by the then Deputy Commissioner of Chamarajanagar Charulata Somal and the then MM Hills Deputy Conservator of Forest (DCF) Y Edukondalu to prepare a master plan for their relocation. Formed a committee. He prepared a Rs 36 crore plan to shift the village to DM Samudra near Hennur and submitted a report to the government in 2022.
The committee surveyed DM Samudra village and submitted a master plan to displace the villagers of Changdi. Along with being forest department land in the DM sea, it is also suitable for agricultural activities.
Changadi village is spread over 178.9 hectares in the MM Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Kuratti Hosur gram panchayat of Hennur taluk. This village, which once had 260 families, has now reduced to 60 families as due to delay in relocation most of them moved to cities and towns in search of alternative jobs and a better future for the education of their children. At present about 200 people live in Changadi.
Even after three years have passed since the report was submitted, Changdi villagers are still waiting for their transfer and they are counting on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to fulfill their demand.
Chamarajanagar Farmers Union vice-president Bardanpura Nagaraj said that due to the delay in the transfer of Changdi, most of the villagers moved towards cities and towns in search of jobs. He said, “Even today, residents of Changadi have to walk about eight kilometers through the dense forests of the MM Hills Sanctuary to buy groceries, get education and health services. For these services they have to travel to Kuratti Hosur and Dantalli villages. Have to visit.”
“Since most of the villagers have agreed to the relocation, the government should initiate all measures to shift them to DM Samudra.” A delegation of farmer leaders, including Changdi villagers, is expected to stress their demand during a visit to MM Hills next month. Will meet the CM for this,” he said.
Speaking to TOI, MM Hills DCF Santoshkumar said: “If the state government releases the funds sought by the committee, the department will shift Changdi villagers to DM Samudra. Each family will be given houses and other facilities if they are ready.” You will get two acres of land along with it.” DM to shift to sea.”
