Nashik: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Has assured to give freehold status to all the houses of City and Industrial Development Corporation. Maharashtra ,CIDCO) in Nashik city. The CM also directed CIDCO Chairman Sanjay Shirsat to prepare the related proposal and approve it.

Shinde’s assurance came when he was addressing a gathering at a local event for Balasaheb Thackeray Memorial Park in Gangapur Road area on Saturday.

The Chief Minister also assured the residents of the city that he would consider their demands regarding amendment in the high property tax imposed on residential and commercial properties.

Nashik city has more than 50,000 residential and commercial properties which were constructed by CIDCO and sold on lease to residents about 40-50 years ago. For the past several years, residents of the CIDCO area have been asking the state government to convert properties under CIDCO jurisdiction from leasehold to freehold.

Ajay Boraste, deputy leader of Shiv Sena and former leader of opposition in Nashik civic body, said the properties were given on lease by CIDCO for a period of 90 years. CIDCO residents are facing many problems. They are unable to develop these leasehold properties. “Therefore, we are requesting the state government to convert the properties from leasehold to freehold, Chief Minister Shinde has also given his assurance on this. We are expecting a decision by CIDCO soon,” Boraste said.

In November 2022, CIDCO had decided to close its Nashik office and transfer employees to other offices. However, CIDCO residents strongly opposed this decision. Keeping in mind the wishes of the residents, CM Shinde had at that time directed the CIDCO administration to withdraw its decision to close its Nashik office.
