“There are around 12,000 to 13,000 families, including patta land owners, squatters and tenants. If a pattadar’s land is taken for the project, they will be compensated with a plot. Others who have encroached on the river bank will be given 2- BHK will be given and a plot will also be taken. The state government will take a decision soon,” Revenue and Housing Minister P Srinivas Reddy, who is on a study tour in Seoul, told TOI.
He said the government may require around 500 acres of land for the scheme. He said, “Many people have talked about museum rejuvenation since the 1980s, but they failed to move it forward. Now, Congress is committed to making it happen.”
The minister said the government plans to convince people and does not want to forcibly take land like the previous BRS government. He said that the CM is ready to spend any amount for a better rehabilitation package for the poor.
He pointed out how the Congress government had acquired land for the Railways in Khammam district when Jalagama Vengal Rao was the Chief Minister and had offered better packages to those who lost land. He said, at that time there was a competition among people to give their land for the railway line because the package was very attractive.
He hoped that now people would also realize this, adding that efforts by opposition parties to politicize the issue would ultimately fail.
