Roorkee residents protest waterlogging by putting houses ‘on sale’

Roorkee:resident of Roorkee Krishna Nagar Colony protested against the persistent waterlogging on Lane 20 by putting up “On Sale” notices outside their homes and shops on Thursday.

The road, which is about 60 feet wide and connects about a dozen villages, has been facing waterlogging in an area of ​​more than half a kilometer for years due to lack of proper drainage system.

The protesters announced a boycott of the upcoming urban local body (ULB) elections and accused politicians of making “big promises” during the elections and disappearing thereafter. This road serves as an important link to villages like Salempur, Sohalpur, Sunehri and Khata Khedi and has about 400 shops, dozens of houses and even a school.

Led by social worker Deepak Lakhwan OpposeHe set up a stage on a waterlogged road and said, “Municipal corporation elections are round the corner. We all have decided to boycott this election. From MPs and MLAs to mayors and councilors, everyone gives us assurances during elections but they disappear. Let’s go.” Later.”

Resident Julie Saini also shared her struggle: “I run a small provision store in my house and am the only earning person in my family. Due to this waterlogging, no customers come to my shop, nor any visitors Comes to my house. Everyone here is facing the same problem and they are planning to sell their property out of frustration because no one is listening to us.”

The administration accepted this issue and said that a master plan is needed to solve it. “This issue has been going on for a long time. The solution lies in building a comprehensive drainage system in the area. We will prepare our report and send it to the government soon,” joint magistrate Ashish Kumar Mishra told TOI.
