Vasco: People gathered from different parts of the state Sankole Protests were held on Sunday against the mega project proposed by Bhutanese Infra Development. Gathering under the banner of Sankole Against Mega Project (SAMP), the protesters demanded that the state government cancel any construction license issued for the multi-residential housing project with immediate effect.
They said they would intensify their agitation if the project was given permission.
The people gathered also expressed their support to former Sankole sarpanch Premanand Naik, who is on an indefinite hunger strike demanding cancellation of the construction license issued for the proposed Bhutanese project at Savarphond, Sankole.
Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas and former minister Francisco ‘Mickey’ Pacheco also attended the meeting and extended their support to the protesters.
The agitators said that some videos were being circulated in which it was claimed that Naik was eating food during the hunger strike. He said these claims are baseless and meant to sabotage the protests.
“Recording footage from a toilet and later broadcasting it is a crime. The government and police should take immediate action to arrest the miscreants and culprits involved in this act,” said Pratima Coutinho.
Tulsidas Naik, a local, said, “Naik’s videos and clips are aimed at disturbing the movement and agitation against the Bhutanese project.”
The agitators said they have decided to lodge a complaint at Varna police station.
