The development came after several residents approached the PMRDA with complaints related to shoddy construction and leakage of ceilings, bathrooms and toilets in their new flats within a year of possession.
The flats built for economically weaker section and low income group people were handed over to the beneficiaries last year. However, soon after possession, many residents started complaining of leakage, following which PMRDA officials directed the developers to carry out repair work. Besides, a fine was also imposed on the developer.
PMRDA chief engineer Rinaj Pathan told TOI, “Though the structure is stable and it is safe for the people living in it, it is better to get it inspected by experts to ensure the safety of citizens. We have written to both the IITs of Bombay. “And COEP and whoever responds quickly will be assigned to inspect.”
He said that following complaints of leakage, inspections are being conducted to find out whether the developers have compromised the quality of materials during construction. If the developer is found at fault, appropriate action will be initiated, he said. A total of 45 buildings have been built under it, each of which has 11 floors with one and two bedroom flats. Pathan said a meeting was held with a delegation of residents and developers and most of the concerns have been addressed. Developers are reconstructing bathrooms and toilets in several buildings where leaks were reported. Earlier in April this year, flat owners had protested at the PMRDA office expressing their concerns.
Atul Kamble, a resident who shifted in June last year, told TOI that the quality of construction has been greatly compromised and repair works are taking a lot of time as developers lack manpower. He said that PMRDA has directed developers to complete the repair work before December 15.
“Initially, only a few flat owners complained about leakage, but the problem has now increased and many residents are complaining to the PMRDA,” he said. Leakage was also reported in storage water tanks and pipes in some buildings. Is.” Repair works will require rebuilding the entire toilet or bathroom to stop the leakage. Kamble said that during Diwali, the security deployed at the society gate was also removed at short notice and the sewage treatment plant was closed.
