The decision was announced by District Magistrate Manish Verma on Tuesday after the inaugural meeting of the recently constituted district level committee. UP Lift Act,
“Building owners will have to register their lifts within six months,” the DM said. Fines will be imposed for non-compliance and lifts will not be allowed after 30 days. Lift manufacturing companies will also have to register themselves under the Lift Act. It will have to be done.”
This panel, headed by the DM, includes the CEO of the local development authority, Additional DM (Finance/Revenue), Municipal Corporation Commissioner or Executive Officer and Executive Engineer of PWD.
The panel will meet every quarter to review the report. The meeting held on Tuesday was attended by representatives of Additional DM (Finance), PWD officials, Deputy Director of Electricity Department and CEO of Noida and Greater Noida Authority. DM Verma specified that it is mandatory for every building or society to register its lifts.
“In housing societies, rwaS&AOA will be responsible for registering the lifts under the Act. In societies without RWA or AOA, the maintenance agency or developer will handle the registration.”
Verma said the district administration will issue a notification regarding the implementation of the Act next week. He said, “Owners not following the norms will be issued notices and fines ranging from Rs 100-10,000 will be imposed. After a grace period of 30 days, lift operations will be suspended until the fine is paid. Lift manufacturers will also Must obtain registration.” Said.
For lift accidents, victims or local residents will have to lodge a complaint with the office of the ADM (Finance and Revenue). Teams led by Deputy Director of Electricity and SDM will investigate the complaints and submit findings to the committee. If the lift malfunction is not rectified after the notice, an FIR will be lodged against the concerned parties.
Under the Act, lift operators must also maintain an accident logbook, which can be shared with the administration or electrical safety officer if requested.
