Accordingly, bulk waste generators, including large apartments, complexes and commercial establishments in the city, will have to process wet waste on-site using composting methods to produce fertilizer by January 15, 2025.
The Municipal Corporation must ensure that all bulk waste generators comply with solid waste management Rules, 2016, and MCC Solid Waste Treatment Bye-laws. Although there are more than 2,500 bulk waste generators in the city, most of them have not yet installed on-site composting units at their premises.
Apartments having more than 30 flats, complexes of more than 5000 sq ft, businesses, malls, commercial establishments, places of worship, public sector enterprises, private companies and various departments within the MCC limits which generate more than 100 kg of waste on an average. Every day it is necessary to separate your solid waste into three categories – organic, dry and hazardous. MCC Commissioner Anand CL said they will have to process the wet waste at the site using composting methods to produce fertilizer by January 15, 2025.
“If large waste producers within city limits fail to process and dispose of organic waste at the site till the end of January 2025, they will have to face a fine of Rs 15,000 under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 and the Mangaluru City Corporation Solid Waste Management Bye-laws, 2019,” the commissioner warned.
