Kerala government unveils plan for 1,000 homes in Wayanad township project, ET RealEstate

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced in the assembly that under Wayanad Township ProjectSingle-storey homes of 1,000 sq ft are planned, with provision to add a second floor in the future. The tenders are expected to be issued within a week after the government approval and the tender process will be completed by December 31.

The plan is to build about 1,000 houses in the two townships. Short term quotations will be invited soon to conduct detailed total station survey of the proposed land. The projects will be executed using the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) model.

Government’s aim is broad rehabilitation planKeeping in mind the suggestions of the public. Nedumbala Estate in Meppadi Panchayat and Elston Estate in Kalpetta Municipality have been identified as suitable sites for construction of model townships for rehabilitation of disaster victims. The acquisition of these sites will be expedited under Disaster Management Act,

Special facilities will be set up to receive materials from sponsors offering support for the project. Additionally, arrangements will be made for sponsors willing to contribute financially to the construction of houses or other facilities in the township. Detailed discussions will be held to finalize these details.

In the first phase, families who lost their houses and land in the disaster will be rehabilitated, followed by families living in vulnerable areas in the second phase. A draft list of beneficiaries for both the phases will be published by the District Collector, with the Revenue Department responsible for issuing detailed instructions for finalizing the list.

The rehabilitation package will give priority to livelihood opportunities, with the aim of providing employment to as many people as possible. Women will receive training to engage in their chosen businesses, and support will be provided to those operating businesses in rented buildings. Farming facilities will also be considered as part of the rehabilitation plan to ensure sustainable livelihood for the community.
