MysoreResidents of residences located on the outskirts of Mysore, which have been approved by the Government. Mysuru Urban Development Authority ,muda), are facing serious difficulties due to the lack of basic amenities,
A dispute between Muda and the newly-formed Hootagally City Municipal Council (CMC) has resulted in residents who pay taxes to Muda not getting essential services, residents have complained. Hootagally CMC Locals alleged that police had stepped in to resolve the issue.
Thousands of residents have built houses in over 33 Muda-approved layouts, including Vijayanagar and other nearby areas falling under the limits of Hootagalli CMC. Residents in Hinnakal, Koorgalli and Hootagalli are facing problems related to drinking water, UGD and other basic amenities. Since Muda did not hand over these layouts to the newly formed Hootagalli CMC, residents are also deprived of amenities from the city’s civic body. Residents of these areas still pay taxes to Muda to ensure basic amenities, but Muda has failed to do so, they alleged.
The state government formed Hootagalli CMC in 2021 by combining areas and wards of Hinnakal, Belavadi, Coorgalli and Hootagalli gram panchayats. Hootagalli, Coorgalli and Belavadi industrial areas also come under Hootagalli CMC.
BK Ravikumar, founder president of Chamundeshwari Urban Development Cooperative Union, said, “Residents like us who have built houses in MUDA-approved layouts have been demanding both MUDA and Hootagalli CMC to ensure basic amenities in the areas for the last two years. But both are not ready to meet the demands as there is a tussle between them over handing over the layout to the newly formed city civic body limits. Since we pay taxes to the government, we demand that basic amenities be ensured.”
Hootagalli CMC commissioner Chandrasekhar told the Times of India that he had written to the MUDA commissioner and chairman asking them to hand over various layouts in his limits to the CMC. “But so far MUDA has not handed them over. The CMC had also asked MUDA to hand over such layouts after providing all basic amenities as it was collecting taxes from such residents for providing amenities to these residents,” he said.
MUDA chairman KM Marigowda said he would look into the letter and take steps to hand over the layout to Hootagalli CMC.
