Central government launches survey to identify new rural housing beneficiaries, ET RealEstate

The government on Tuesday launched a survey of kutcha houses across the country to identify its new beneficiaries. rural housing scheme, Minister of Rural Development and Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chauhan Said.

The survey will be completed within six months and people living in kutcha housing units can qualify for pucca (all-weather) houses. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Rural ,PMAY-G), he adds. The idea is to ensure that no intended beneficiary is left out, Chouhan said at an event in Bhairunda, Madhya Pradesh.

Chouhan said the PMAY-G eligibility criteria have been relaxed and people owning a bike or scooter can now be included in the beneficiary list. People earning up to Rs 15,000 per month will also now be eligible for a house (earlier the limit was Rs 10,000).

According to an official statement, Chouhan also launched the Awas Sakhi mobile app for PMAY beneficiaries and inaugurated community managed training centres, about 100 of which are being started in 18 states.

The Cabinet in August had approved Rs 3.06 lakh crore to build 30 million houses across the country over the next five years, of which 20 million will be built under PMAY-G. This is more than the 29.5 million houses that the government is targeting to complete under the scheme this financial year since its launch in 2016.

Chouhan also laid the foundation stone of 500 km of new metalled roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and launched the village road survey and planning tool.

Apart from other ministers, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also participated in this program.
