According to the 2011 census, there are 1,88,220 Reang families in Tripura.
Kalyansingh village committee member Jitendra Reang (31) told PTI, out of 60 families of Kalyansingh village, a total of 25 families have been allotted permanent houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
He said, “Some villagers have already built their pucca houses while some are about to start the construction work. We are very happy to get pucca houses from the government.”
CPI(M) leader and former president of Kalyansingh Para village committee Gunadhan Reang (60) was also very happy to get a permanent house under PMAY.
“Never thought that I would get a permanent house… This is a big thing. I thanked the Prime Minister.” Narendra Modi To allot me a pucca house under PMAY. This permanent house is permanent and will provide comfort to my entire family. There will be no threat from heavy rain or storm”, he said.
Lagpati Reang (67), a resident of the village, is also very happy after being allotted a pucca house under PMAY.
Sitting in her Tang house, she said, “I am very happy to get a permanent house from the government. I will shift to a new house soon.”
Block Development Officer (BDO) of Damburnagar RD Block, Joydeep Debbarma, said that this village committee has been declared as the Chief Minister’s Model Village for the year 2024-25 as the area is dominated by primitive tribes.
“Due to geographical location, electricity, water supply and all weather resistant roads could not be extended, but efforts are on to resolve the problem. As far as electricity is concerned, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSEC) and Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (trada) are working to provide stable service”, the BDO said.
To boost connectivity, PWD will soon construct a black-top road from Gandacherra to Kalaysinghpara and a deep tube well will be installed for water supply, he said.
